LET THE JOURNEY BEGIN!! (why did I start this blog?)

Up until my mid teen age my understanding of the female reproductive system and its functioning were limited to rumors and myths passed around by classmates and school mates. I did know the obvious basics about the menstrual cycle which (even though getting hold of the spelling was another struggle on its own), I thought every girl within the age of 12-15 had started seeing their 'period' every month, and the pains that accompanied it was not alien to me. However those thoughts became questionable when I met with classmates who seemed to not follow the set guidelines I had created in my head pertaining what was my ideal view on the menstrual cycle.

As opposed to my earliest school of thought, not everyone saw their periods after the proposed 28 to 30 days cycle as I was initially taught, while some didn't see their periods at all. Some had heavier flows than others, some experienced excruciating pain ( even to the point of having to be admitted to the school sick bay) and contrary to what I thought was a standard 5 day bleeding period, some reported to having lesser days (2-3 day) while some went as far as seeing their period for more than a week -I envied the former but was grateful I didn't fall amongst the latter-. And so my search to understanding why such diversity existed in this thing I felt was similar to every girl/lady/woman began.

Each woman's menstrual cycle is different and is subject to change.

It is important to understand the different stages of a regular cycle, the signs accompanying those stages and what happens within each stage of our cycle as it would help us understand our body as women better. Each woman's menstrual cycle is different and is subject to change, this could be as a result of certain external and internal factors such as stress, medications ( contraceptives), health conditions (PCOS, PID) etc.

In summary the need to develop an interest and acquire knowledge in regards to our sexual organs for the sake of improving our reproductive health cannot be overemphasized.

Now that you have found where you can deepen your understanding and indulge your curiosity on what it truly means to be female and fertile, why not join the club!!

Till next time, stay blessed.
